Rhetorical Strategies Essay - 662 Words

AP English per.2 2/23/13 The Crisis No. 1 As we read this passage it is full of different rhetorical strategies and the reason they were put in there. The writer’s style is the way he uses his language and the rhetorical strategies that he might use to enhance his writing. As I read the passage I came across syntax which is the war he puts his words to send the reader a message, and ad hominem arguing his point against the person instead of the argument. The rhetorical used in the reading is used cleverly enough to prove a point. One of the first rhetorical strategies he uses is syntax and the definition is the way an author chooses to join words into phrases and sentences. The words he uses for his syntax are†¦show more content†¦It matters not where you live†¦the evil or the blessing will reach you.† The reason why he uses you repeatedly and often is to address them or you so you can feel personally committed to the words he is saying. When he uses you instead of the colonist or people it is much stronger to use you there is a personal connection with the speaker and the listener. The use of you is to feel personally committed because in times like this people only worry about themselves and that’s the nature of humans. The nature of humans is always to care for themselves especially in hard situations when you are being addressed personally you have that sensation that you must help yourself. The person speaking knew that and addressed them personally as you in order to get his message through the people. It helped get the message through the people and soon got what he wanted. In conclusion the passage is full of rhetorical strategies like the ones I have used to describe the feelings of the man trying to send out his message to the colonist and the syntax used as well as the pathos to show how he feels about the king and the wrong choices he has been doing he is trying to get the colonist to go against him and things would improve without his rul ing. Since I was little I’ve had a passion for cooking and baking. I loved to cook, from soup to stir fry and from brownies to cakes. When I cook, I feel like I can do anything, and it brings me joy when I see the people I care for enjoy it as much as I do. Cooking has brought me closer to the people in my life and has brought me closer to my heritage. One day I wanted to challenge myself and my cooking skills to see how far I could get and what I could achieve. When thinking about the next type of food I wanted to cook, I started to enjoy a different type of animation. I started watching a lot of Hayao Miyazaki as well as Bob Kuwahara and Makoto Shinkai. With this in mind, I wanted to know everything about authentic Japanese dishes. I wanted to recreate and relate my food to a new hobby and a new interest in my life. When researching different Japanese dishes I found it a tad difficult to find authentic dishes. It wasn’t until I researched a whole lot more about Japanâ€⠄¢s culinary culture that I found out why. The League of Nations failed to stop Italy invading Abyssinia because of many reasons. These reasons include Italy being a threat to the rest of the world, having an alliance with Italy, Abyssinia meant nothing to the League of Nations and the League couldn’t afford to help Abyssinia. Italy was a very powerful country in the 1930’s and the League of Nations failed to stop them invading. There were many countries that were frightened of Italy. Among these countries were France and Britain. Italy’s navy army was overrated and with Britain thinking it was better than it was made them scared. They didn’t want to risk their own Navy, it was too important to them. France saw Italy as a threat because they thought Italy might join forces with Germany, and destroy the rest of the world. Which is why France and Britain’s votes were with Italy invading Abyssinia. Secondly, all the countries in the League of Nations wanted Italy on their side if Hitler planned an attack again. Throughout World War One Italy switched sides of the two alliances numerous times, so if Germany was to invade the League, they wanted to make sure they had Italy on their side. Which is another reason they didn’t stop Italy invading Abyssinia. Thirdly, Abyssinia is a small African country that meant little to the League of Nations. The Abyssinian Emperor – Haile Selassie – went to the League to appeal for help, but it did nothing. The League was too frightened that they thought it was safer to give up Abyssinia so Italy would join their forces. The League became defenceless, weak and no help to Abyssinia. Lastly, once Italy had invaded Abyssinia, the League of Nations didn’t want to send army’s over to defend because of the tragic ending in WWI. The end of the war left many countries helpless, even with the Treaty of Versailles. The League thought that if they sent army’s over to defend the Abyssinia there was a chance that the same horrific outcomes could happen just like in WWI. So they didn’t offer to help Abyssinia, instead they silently agreed that Italy could take over Abyssinia and they would do nothing about it. To conclude, Italy invaded Abyssinia without any problems from the League of Nations. The league was scared of Italy, they were scared of Germany attacking again and they were scared of the outcomes of WWI. The League became vulnerable and feeble being unable to do anything.
